Avedon Portraits

In these photos I was trying to capture similar portraits to Richard Avedon. I used black and white to capture the emotion in a more serious background. I also used darkening editing to bring out the expression in the faces of my models. Also when i was taking the photos i tried to make the model feel very comfortable like the camera was not even there.

  2. Nice photos Josh. I especially like how you were able to capture a variety of different emotions and sides of the models you photographed. You not only incorporated an effortless mood into your photos, but also a pensive, lively, and apathetic one.

  4. This series is a great start in capturing the details of Richard Avedon's film. I think you achieved your goal of making the model feel comfortable to bring out emotion in black and white images. On your next draft, I would focus more on making sure the model does not pose as much and bring out the natural mood. Great Job!

  5. Good work Josh. I like that you composed your shots a bit differently throughout the series so things didn't become repetitive. I would consider trimming down the amount of shots though.

  7. your strong points lay in your framing of subjects and i think you picked out really good photos from the bunch for looking like natural expressions. even though Avedon uses a completely white background, i think my favorite is the first photo and the way the shadow falls on the wall
